PARQUE NACIONAL DE SINTRA
National Palace of Sintra The National Palace of Sintra, located in the historical center of the village, is a unique monument and unavoidable for its historical, architectural and artistic value. Of all the Palaces that the Portuguese monarchs had erected throughout the Middle Ages, only Sintra has survived to this day practically intact, maintaining the essence of its configuration and silhouette since the middle of the sixteenth century. The main campaigns of works after the Christian Reconquest (XII century) were promoted by the king D. Dinis, D. João I and D. Manuel I, between the end of the thirteenth century and the middle of the sixteenth century. These works of adaptation, enlargement and improvement determined the physiognomy of the palace.
