the scenery of Portuguese art, thanks to its historical value and
artistic wealth. The guide provides visitors with an updated look on
this Jesuit temple, designed in the light of the latest historical and

in the late sixteenth century under the efforts of the Society of
Jesus. According to Teresa Morna, director of the Museum of São Roque,
"the interior of this Jesuit temple encompasses artistic treasures such
as their harmonious decor, including gilded, polychrome marbles, the
tiles, the compositions in mosaic, painting, sculpture and the shrines. "
The route leads the visitor through the space and history of the Church
of São Roque, following a guided route from the Hermitage of São Roque
through the construction of the temple and to the ornamentation,
chapels, altars and Sacristy of the Church of São Roque.
